After installing the same or newer version of Quickbooks on your new computer you can transfer a backup of your old computer's QuickBooks file. Once the back-up process has completed, you can continue to keep track of rent, schedule payments to vendors and keep record of all your business expenses and income. Additionally, if you aren't already creating regular backups of your QuickBooks files, you should do so each time you update your account files to ensure you don't lose valuable financial data.
Create the Backup File
1.Connect a portable storage device such as a USB or external hard drive to your old computer.
2.Launch QuickBooks on your old computer and open the company file you want to transfer.
3.Click the 'File' menu and then select 'Create Backup.'
4.Select 'Local Backup' and click 'Options.' Locate your personal storage device and select it as the location for your backup. Click 'Next.'
6.Click 'Save' and wait for the backup file to be created.
Restore the Backup File
1.Insert your personal storage device into the new computer and open QuickBooks. If you haven't already installed QuickBooks on the new computer, do this first.
2.Click the 'File' menu and select 'Restore Company.'
3.Select 'Restore a Backup Copy' then click 'Next.'
4.Select 'Local Backup' as the location for your backup file.
5.Navigate to your personal storage device and click on the QuickBooks backup file. Click 'Open' and then 'Next.'
6.Confirm that you want to restore the backup file and select 'Save' to initiate the restore process.

How To Transfer Quickbooks To A Different Computer
So long as the shortcuts are pointing to the DB on the new server, the clients shouldn't notice a difference. I've used the QB DB Manager, but I didn't like it. Felt like it complicated things. I previously worked @ an Accounting Firm with 10 different versions of QB running simultaneously and hundreds of DB's floating around the network. I was able to move DB's almost anywhere so long as the shortcuts pointed to the file, everything ran smooth.

Of course If you're not sure about this process, you could always make a copy of the DB on the new server, and have one client open it from new location to make sure it works before you modify the shortcut for everyone.
